An abundance has been written in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the industry alive. But will the internet adaptation of this classic game present a lifeline, or will it never compare to its land based kin?
Bingo is an enduring game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent comeback in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the smoking ban throughout UK.
No more will players be able to smoke while marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored areas where players enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t cast aside this enduring game?
The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a cocktail and smoke and still enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course wagering on on the web will never replace the communal aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
